In the many years that I’ve been working out I have discovered some important things about supplements that I want to pass on to you.

They play an important role in your results, if you are using the right ones.

The food that we eat can only give us so much nutrition and most times it isn’t enough to help our bodies grow, repair muscle and stay healthy.

Supplements are for helping you get the proper amount of nutrients that your body isn’t getting from food alone.

Tips for choosing the Right Supplements

Quality over Quantity

I’ve seen a lot of people want to buy a supplement because it’s cheap.

The thing is.. you get what you pay for.

A high price doesn’t always mean quality but a low price usually means low quailty.

Make sure to research the ingredients in the supplements before you buy them.

You want high quality because this is what you are putting into your body.

This is for your long term health.

Would you buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini and put regular unleaded gas in it?

NO… you would put in the best gas you could find.

So do you want your body to run like a Ferrari or Lamborghini…. or the clunker that can barely get your from point A to B.

 

Careful who you listen to

Watch out when asking the reps at the supplement stores what to buy.

Most times they have recommended something that was incorrect or recommend something that wasn’t healthy for me.

There are so many supplements in those stores that there is a very small chance that they have tried all of them out. Yet they will recommend all of them like they are taking them themselves.

 

Find a good Post Workout Supplement

When you are putting in all that hard work during your workout, you are putting a beating on your muscles and depleting your glycogen stores.

Within an hour of working out you want to take a good, hi quality supplement that has a good mix of simple carbohydrates and protein, along with proper nutrients to help your muscles repair themselves.

I used to take the P90X Results and Recovery formula but after some research I switched over to Shakeology after my workouts.

Shakeology is what I usually use as a meal replacement every day.

I started using it as a post workout supplement and noticed a big difference in my results.

 

Ingredients to STAY AWAY from

Some supplements will have unhealthy ingredients in them.

These are a few that you DON’T want to find in your supplements or shakes, if you want them to be healthy for you.

  • Artificial Flavours (linked to attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, skin disorders and headaches.)
  • Artificial Sweeteners (many studies show they are linked to weight gain, causes your carb cravings to go up, stimulates appetite, stimulates fat storage)

 

Whatever you decide to use make sure it’s a great one.

 

Those tips are what I wish I would have known from the start of my fitness journey. They would have saved me hundreds of dollars and a lot of time.

It’s a lifelong journey of testing out how things affect your body, how you feel and you results.

Learning from these experiences and continuously improving on them each day.
