Do you constantly get cravings. I know I do. Everyone wants to know “How to reduce cravings”. You may not know but I have a sweet tooth for chocolate bars, cakes, cookies as well as ice cream. My best strategy to stay away from these foods is to not have them in the house.
There will be people that have family members that don’t see eye to eye with them and aren’t as dedicated to eating healthy and changing their lives so I have some other tips you can use to reduce cravings.
20 Tips for How to Reduce Cravings
Not of these tips to reduce cravings will work for everyone. Try a few out and use what works best for you.
1 – Keep your mouth clean!
Brushing your teeth after meals or chewing gum. Keeping the taste of food in your mouth will keep you wanting more and even want dessert. Brush your teeth after each meal or chew some sugar free gum.
2 – Drink Water
Drink plenty of water. Most of the time when we feel hungry we are just dehydrated. Drinking more water will also make you feel full. Most people don’t drink enough water but don’t go overboard. You don’t want to be going pee every 30 minutes.
3 – Don’t keep snacks around you.
If you have snacks readily accessible to you are more likely to eat them. Empty out that desk drawer at work that has unhealthy snacks. Tell your family to keep their goodies out of your site so you don’t get tempted.
4 – Healthy Snacks
When you feel like snacking eat fruits or vegetables instead. If you have a craving for something crunchy try some carrots.
5 – Drink Green Tea
Green Tea is a great antioxidant. It seems to make me feel full as well.
6 – Keep yourself Occupied
Do something to take your mind off of it. I find that if I am busy doing something I may actually forget to eat. Do some cleaning, workout, talk on the phone, do some stretches, go for a walk, go shopping, read a book or anything else that will take your mind off of food.
7 – Wait 15 minutes
Wait 15 minutes before giving in to your craving, usually it will disappear.
8 – Spare change and Small Bills
This may sound weird but if you don’t have any change or in some cases small bills, you won’t be able to purchase any unhealthy snacks from the vending machine at work.
9 – Record your TV Shows
You may be shocked to see this on here. You probably weren’t expecting this. I was watching TV the other day and even though I had recorded all my shows I still saw part of a commercial. It was a commercial for a Mr. Big bar. Mmm chocolate. Luckily it was at the end and I wasn’t that tempted. Watching 2 full minutes of that could have been a disaster.
10 – Get enough sleep
If you aren’t getting enough sleep you it causes more stress and your blood sugar levels fluctuate more causing you to have more cravings.
11 – Eat a small dose.
Sometimes you can find some bite sized or small package of your craving food. This can help to minimize overeating on it as long as you only have one package.
12 – Eat more expensive.
Try a gourmet piece of dark chocolate instead of that cheap candy bar. If it’s costing you a lot more you are less likely to gorge and eat a lot at a time.
13 – Picture your goal.
Leave pictures around of your goal. Works best on the fridge or pantry so you see them when you are thinking of going off course. You’ll tend to think, do I want this goal body more or this treat.
14 – Don’t do anything when you are eating.
Many people tend to check their phone, watch TV, surf the web or do other things when they are eating. This causes you to eat more then you need to and you may not even notice that you aren’t hungry anymore.
15 – Make your craving healthier.
If you have a craving for some unhealthy food try to sneak something healthy in with it. Craving peanut butter? Put it on some celery.
16 – Give up artificial Sweeteners
These artificial sweeteners will actually have you craving more and foods with regular sugar.
17 – Make it an accomplishment
Keep track of every time that you beat a craving. Write it down each time that you didn’t give in and watch it add up. You’ll feel accomplished and realize how well you are doing. You’ll want to kep the streak alive.
18 – Have a cheat day.
Having a cheat day once a week is something that many people use to have foods that they should be staying away from on a regular basis. Make sure to schedule this day and don’t just randomly choose days as they can get out of hand. Maybe you usually go out for dinner on the weekend so one of those days may work best for you.
19 – Pay yourself
Give yourself a little bonus each day that you stick to your diet. Maybe there is some new toy or piece of clothes that you want. Make yourself work for it.
20 – Drink Shakeology
Sometimes I’ll leave my chocolate shake for the end of the day so can have it at night so I don’t cheat with other foods.
