Have you ever been stuck and unconfident about taking action.
Here is a little formula I just came across to make it easier.
Think about something you’ve been wanting to do but just can’t get up the confidence or you just aren’t willing to take the risk to do.
Think about what the potential upside of this risk is.
Give it a number between 1 and 10. 1 being no upside and 10 being a great upside.
Now what is the potential downside of this doing this?
Give it a number between 1 and 10. 1 being no downside and 10 being a great downside.
Take the upside number and subtract the downside number.
If you get a positive number then the action may be worth taking.
Here are a few examples:
Cheating on a test.
May have an upside of a 2 (you get a few extra questions right)
But a downside of 10 (when you get expelled for doing so)
So it’s a minus 8. (not a good choice)
You are thinking about talking to someone you are interested in and asking them out.
Upside is a 10 (you go out with them and have a beautiful life together)
Downside is a 2. (you get rejected or it just doesn’t turn out)
It comes out a plus 8. (Makes sense to do it)
You decide to join a challenge group, drink Shakeology every day, learn how to eat healthy and get toned and fit working out at home for 30 minutes a day.
Upside is a 10 (You feel FANTASTIC, made new friends, fuelled your body with at least 1 healthy meal a day and you are getting stronger and stronger every day.)
Downside is a 1 (You aren’t feeling FANTASTIC, it didn’t make you feel AMAZING. You call up customer service and tell them it didn’t work, even after you drank the full bag of Shakeology. It’s within the 30 days and you get a refund even though you drank it.)
So it’s a 9 benefit.
So the risk is minimal.
Which is excellent.
You can do this for anything you are thinking about doing so you’ll feel better about trying new things and getting out of your comfort zone.
