If you are anything like me you probably do things every day that you think are right just because you’ve been doing them for so long that you don’t know any better. It happens to everyone.
I’ve always had a pair of running shoes. I’m sure everyone has at some point. The question is… how many of us are running? I did some running in high school but I don’t think I’ve done any running in the last 18 years.
Maybe some chasing after the kids but that isn’t usually in a straight line. 🙂

Do Not Wear Running Shoes for P90X3, Insanity or Focus T25
I was working out a couple weeks ago doing my P90X3 workouts and noticed that on most of the videos Tony Horton says to NOT wear running shoes. This kind of had me thinking. Why have I always bought running shoes? I don’t run. Then I thought. If he’s saying this in the video I bet there are a lot of people wearing running shoes for their P90X, Insanity and T25 type of workouts.
Why You Shouldn’t Wear Running Shoes for P90X3, Insanity or Focus T25
I decided to dig deeper (like Shawn T says) to find out the exact reasons and problems that occur from wearing running shoes for these types of workouts.
The reason is that if you are doing plyometrics the extra padding on your shoes won’t allow you to land properly and can cause knee or ankle problems.
I found this blog post by Shawn T (creator of Insanity and Focus T25) and he says that he actually goes barefoot for working out at home. This is because he has very flat feet.
Shawn T goes on to recommend a very flat shoe that doesn’t have a heal that is higher than the toe. He says anything that mimics the human foot.

Working out Barefoot for Focus T25 and P90X3
I tried going barefoot but during some workouts I don’t get a good enough grip on my exercise mat and under my toes tend to crack. It may be something you want to try out before purchasing new shoes. Try it for a week and see how it feels.
Shoes I’m Wearing for P90X3 and Focus T25 Workouts
I saw some 5 finger vibrams on sale so I decided to try out a pair. I have been using them for about 3 weeks now and my feet feel great, no ankle or knee problems that I have noticed. I did occasionally get knee problems before but so far so good. Take a trip to the shoe store and try some on while practicing some lunges or agility moves from side to side to see what feels best.
